Sharing Stories, Skills and History at The Red House

At The Red House Retirement Village, we love celebrating incredible talents and fascinating stories. Our regular monthly talks offer a wonderful opportunity for our homeowners to share their passions with friends and neighbours, and for guest speakers impart their knowledge.
During an inspiring session from Josina, one of our talented homeowners, our community were introduced to the captivating world of glass fusion.

Handmade by Josina herself, a selection of stunning creations were on full display, showcasing the beauty and intricacy of this colourful craft. Her talk gave everyone a glimpse into the process behind the art and sparked plenty of admiration – and maybe even a few new adopters of the hobby.
We also welcomed guest speaker Anthony Prince, who took us on a journey through the rich local history of Ripon. With many of our homeowners having lived in or around Ripon for much of their lives, it was no surprise that this talk was especially well-attended.
Anthony shared insights from his book, Forged in War: Ripon Camp, which uncovers untold stories of the Great War and the extraordinary role Ripon played in shaping soldiers and supporting the war effort. His talk highlighted the enduring connection between the military and the local community – a bond truly “forged in war”.

It’s moments like these – where creativity, conversation and community come together – that make life at The Red House so special. We’re already looking forward to next month’s talk.
