Whiteknights Visit Captivates The Red House Retirement Village

Whiteknights visit

Excitement filled the air at The Red House Retirement Village in Ripon last week as volunteers from the Whiteknights Yorkshire Blood Bikes charity made a memorable appearance. The visit brought our community together for an engaging afternoon of  educational insights and fundraising..

Behind the Handlebars: A Vital Service Revealed

Andy Martin, the General Manager of The Red House and a serving Whiteknights volunteer, invited colleague Matthew Beynon-Tullett to share the story of their critical work. The charity provides free transportation of urgent medical supplies between healthcare facilities during out-of-hours, helping the NHS to save lives across Yorkshire.

The presentation, held in the village’s restaurant, gave owners a fascinating glimpse into this essential service. Taking the experience to another level, the volunteers brought one of their specialized bikes indoors, allowing curious village residents to examine it up close and even take the rider’s seat.

Homeowner David Bradley expressed: “The talk was very entertaining, and it was wonderful to hear about the work conducted by the Whiteknights. Having the chance to sit on the bike was a real treat!”

Community Generosity Honours Award-Winning Charity

Impressed by the charity’s dedication, owners collected £300 in donations for the Whiteknights, who recently received the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service.

“I was so pleased to be able to share this important part of my life with our homeowners,” Andy remarked. “I would like to extend a huge thank you on behalf of the Whiteknights to The Red House community for their generosity in raising such a significant amount of money, which will certainly help us make a positive difference to the care of patients in Yorkshire.”
